Meet Lucille
We’ve been keeping a little secret. Well, a nearly 30-foot long secret. Late last summer (2019) in a whirlwind moment, we purchased a 2017 North Trail Caliber 22FBS. And we are smitten.
To be honest, we were not RV shopping. Buying a travel trailer wasn’t even on our radar because the pop-up was working GREAT for us. In fact, we only felt there were a few little drawbacks to the pop-up. Mainly, that here in Colorado, we have a short camping season and the canvas sides didn’t accommodate the May and September snow showers that are not unusual in the Rockies like we would have preferred. It wasn’t a big deal, but always a thought in the back of our mind to upgrade someday. So when this opportunity fell in our laps, we couldn’t pass it up. We purchased the rig through a private sale from a couple who was reluctantly selling due to some long term health issues.
Now I know what you might be thinking. Yes, we have three kids, no we didn’t buy a bunkhouse. Technically, the 22FBS is considered a “couples camper”. But to us, it’s not a big deal. We are so used to converting tables into beds, that we didn’t even bat an eye. This might be a concession for most, but we are just thankful to be camping and spending time together as a family.
Do you know the best part? So much counter space!! And a bathroom made for a dance party! Not to mention the fact that we didn’t need to buy a new truck, because this is a lightweight trailer.
We have lovingly named her Lucille and have been spending as much time with her as possible. As I’ve mentioned before our HOA doesn’t allow RV’s to be parked at home, so she’s tucked away in storage about 10 miles from home. Though not terribly convenient we have been making upgrades throughout the winter and now that summer is rolling around we are ready to go!
We have made many plans for this summer, some have been cancelled due to COVID-19, and some have not. We hope you follow along over on Instagram as we explore more and discover new things. And come on back here as we share some of our upgrades - good and bad. And see how we fit the five of us in a couple’s camper.
