DIY RV Renovation: Transforming Pop-Up Camper with Painted Hardware
Hi! Welcome to Campfire Travelers. Back in 2015, we transformed our little pop-up camper into a shining, clean, and updated home on wheels for less than $1000. We took what we learned and wanted to help others in their own DIY RV renovation. You can learn more here. And if you ever have any questions please feel free to contact us here.
Now that the cabinets are looking better, it's time to spruce up the cabinet hardware. We removed all the existing gold hardware at the same time we removed the cabinets. To save time and money we decided to give the gold a facelift with spray paint as well. Wow, what an improvement that was! The hardware looks brand new and it only cost a few dollars. YES! We even painted the hinges.
We purchased our favorite silver Rust-Oleum spray paint as well as their 2x clear gloss from Home Depot.
In all, the hardware took just a few coats of silver as well as several thick coats of clear gloss to help the new color stand up to heavy use.
After the handles and hinges had dried very well we re-attached them to the cabinets and installed everything back into the camper. Let me tell you, I was a little nervous about the final result and I am happy to report you would NEVER be able to tell that these were painted.
The best part - we didn't have to worry about filling in holes, drilling, or searching for new hardware that would fit the camper. If you're thinking about painting your RV hardware, I promise you will not be disappointed.
