Campground Fun for the Whole Family: Printable Games and Activities for Your Next RV Trip
It’s no secret kids get bored at the campground despite our best efforts to keep them entertained. When you feel like you’ve run out of ideas here are a few more campground activities and games for the whole family.
The best part is that there is very little pre-planning needed for most of these ideas. Feel free to adapt any of these games to what you have on hand or give them a new fun take.
INUKSHUK BUILDING CONTEST
Who can build the best human-shaped cairn that stays standing?
using only what you find in nature
you can’t vote for yourself
and creativity wins!
You may remember inukshuk figures from the 2010 Winter Olympics in British Columbia - their mascot was a fun example of these usually large human figures. An inukshuk is a type of manmade stone landmark or cairn built for use by the Inuit, Iñupiat, Kalaallit, Yupik, and other peoples of the Arctic region of North America thought to be a welcome sign or directional marker. Pull up a few pictures on your phone for more ideas.
CREATIVE S’MORES COOKOFF
Compete against one another to invent the best new s’mores creation!
This requires some forethought on purchasing the ingredients, the dollar store is perfect for this!
Our family LOVES to expand on the greatness of s’mores with unexpected flavor combinations. Strawberry cheesecake. Mint chocolate. Peanut butter lovers. Chocolate upon chocolate upon chocolate. The ideas are endless.
Add a fun extra spin to this by making it into an Iron Chef style competition. Create teams, give them a time limit with their bag of secret ingredients and see who comes up with the most creative and best tasting creation!
GLOW STICK PHOTO SESSION
Wait until it’s dark and create fun photos using the slow shutter speed on your phone (or camera) and glow sticks.
If you have a newer phone it should automatically work in night mode or you can even download one of several slow shutter apps from the app store.
For more info you can search light painting on the web. This is a fun favorite of ours when burn bans prevent us from fireworks on the 4th of July or when we can’t have a campfire.
GEOCACHING
There are geocaches everywhere!! Download the official app (there are many, but the official app is my favorite) and start tracking them down!
Geocaching no longer requires special GPS equipment, but trading little goodies is still so much fun for kids. We collect little kids meal toys or even leave a $1 bill every once in awhile.
PHOTO SCAVENGER HUNT
Download and print our free kid’s scavenger hunt pages and race to see who can take a picture of the most items in 5 or 10 minutes.
You can break up into teams of boys vs. girls, parents vs. kids, or even compete against other families.
We like to come up with a few wild and crazy ideas before heading out to search - don’t forget to write them down - a horse wearing a hat, a dog with a red collar, the biggest RV you can find, matching tents, a unicorn, etc.
